Since 2001, a broad-based coalition of more than 20 organizations has worked collaboratively to identify key health care workforce concerns and to develop short and long-term strategies to alleviate Oklahoma’s health care worker shortages.
In November 2006, the OHCWC was created by SB 1394 to accomplish the following:
- Collect data and analyze health care worker supply and demand trends;
- Work toward ensuring Oklahoma’s education and training systems have the resources and support to produce the number of health care workers needed in both the short and long term;
- Increase the level of awareness among Oklahoma young people and adults of the opportunities available in health care; and
- Improve the job satisfaction and retention rates of current Oklahoma health care employees.
